Week 5
For week 5 I picked Nague by Machito and his afro-cubans! Now this is a head banger, It kind of sounds like one of those songs that would be in a super old disney movie like the first jungle book or something if you know what I mean. It also has a mariachi-ish sound. At the start its pretty mariachi but towards the end when the drums come in, it sounds like an african song. But I guess that would explain the name of the band, Machito and his afro-cubans. Defiently a really afro-cuban sounding song. I would almost expect to hear at least the first part of the song in a mexican food place. On google it says it was released in 2015, but Im pretty sure that's wrong, I dont know though haha. It seems like it was probably in 40's or 50's, but I honestly have no clue. And in the middle there's actually about 30 seconds to me that sound kind of jazzy. Its probably just me, but listen, find out for yourself, and let me know what you think. But to finish out, this is an awesome song. Part Spanish, part Cuban, part African, part Jazz, and part Disney, definetly a classic.
A head banger, you say? It sounds like you did enjoy listening to this song. A super old Disney movie. Yeah, it is the same deal with the song "Brazil" by Xavier Cugat, which was featured in the classic Disney movie Saludos Amigos. Maybe there is a cover of this song and that is why google said it was released in 2015.
ReplyDeleteI didn't even think about it as something that could be in an old Disney movie before but yeah it definitely sounds like something that could be in The Jungle Book. I also like how the song mixes the kind of mariachi sound with traditional African music like you said. It definitely has an interesting mix of instruments from different cultures which is pretty cool.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love your description of this song, and after a few listens I must admit that this wouldn't feel out of place in an old Disney movie. My favorite part of this song is how it is able to blend so many different styles and cultures together. I normally don't like this kind of music but the way that this song blends together so many different aspects of music I can't help but to like it.
ReplyDeleteI like how descriptive you are with explaining the song; it makes me feel like I can actually imagine what it sounds like and after listening I can agree with your description. I like how you related your life by saying where you would normally hear that type of music in your everyday life. I definitely also agree that it could be fusion of all those types of music.
