Week 7

Alright so for this week I picked the song El Watusi by a guy named Ray Barretto. I had never heard song until we listened to it in this class. Its kind funky if you know what I mean. I might be wrong but I am pretty sure the that main beat is on the upbeat, which is why it has that funky sound to it. I don't speak spanish really well, so I have no idea what he is talking about. But for me I like the sound of songs better then the lyrics. Like if a song was talking about something sad but sounded happy, I would pay more attention to the sound. Or if a song sounded sad but was talking about something happy, I probably wouldn't listen to it cause I just focus on the sound if you know what I mean. So with this song, It sounds fun, and its easy to listen to, so I think its a win for this week and Ray Barretto.  And for me It really doesn't have that big of a latin vibe. It doesn't really sound like anything I've ever heard before, which I think makes it cool

  1. I agree that the song is definitely weird; the beat doesn't sound like most songs at all. I also think it's strange how long it takes for the instruments to actually kick in (I think it wasn't until about 45 seconds into the song). Once the instruments started to play though, I liked the beat of the song and I agree that it's cool because it's nothing I've ever heard before.

  2. Hi Jordan! I like how you described this song as funky, I definitely know what you mean and I think that's a good way to describe it. I also really like how you talked about how you tend to listen to the music rather than lyrics. I think a lot of people do that and it can be really interesting when you start noticing different things on how the lyrics interact with the music. I love how upbeat it is and I agree, when a song is easy to listen to it just makes you want to listen to it more. Great job :)
