Week 10
For this weeks post I picked "The message" by Grandmaster flash. So I had never even heard of this song until we listened to it in class. So I like rap music, but not all of it. There's only a few good ones out there if you know what I mean. But this song, I think has been added to the list. I was actually listening to the lyrics this time, and they are pretty spot on. I have spent my fair share of time in the projects and ghetto's of america. And the things that he says are as spot on as it can get. I don't know who wrote the rap, but clearly they know what they are talking about if you know what I mean. I also like the beat, its just a good song, and really easy to listen to. Another thing I like is that you can actually understand what he is rapping about, and the fact that, its not dirty at all. I also think that the syntheziser sound that they have going pretty much through the whole song sounds pretty cool. I don't know how they did it, but somehow, they have come up with one of the most accurate, clean, and well thought out rap songs of all time. Again I had never heard of Grandmaster Flash before, but I think Im a fan.
I'm the same way about rap music, and I couldn't agree more about this song. I also love how you can tell what he is saying. One of my least favorite parts about rap is how you can never tell what words are being said unless it's a cuss word. I have also never heard of these guys before, but I think that I'll check out some of their other music.
ReplyDeleteGrandmaster Flash is awesome. He was a pioneer of the rap industry, even though "the Message" isn't exactly very resembling of modern rap, it was the base for a genera of music that is very prone to change and variance within its own style. The song is great and The grandmaster was able to separate himself from other generas of the time and create his own new style
