Week 10

 For this weeks post I picked "The message" by Grandmaster flash. So I had never even heard of this song until we listened to it in class. So I like rap music, but not all of it. There's only a few good ones out there if you know what I mean. But this song, I think has been added to the list. I was actually listening to the lyrics this time, and they are pretty spot on. I have spent my fair share of time in the projects and ghetto's of america. And the things that he says are as spot on as it can get. I don't know who wrote the rap, but clearly they know what they are talking about if you know what I mean. I also like the beat, its just a good song, and really easy to listen to. Another thing I like is that you can actually understand what he is rapping about, and the fact that, its not dirty at all. I also think that the syntheziser sound that they have going pretty much through the whole song sounds pretty cool. I don't know how they did it, but somehow, they have come up with one of the most accurate, clean, and well thought out rap songs of all time. Again I had never heard of Grandmaster Flash before, but I think Im a fan.

    I'm the same way about rap music, and I couldn't agree more about this song. I also love how you can tell what he is saying. One of my least favorite parts about rap is how you can never tell what words are being said unless it's a cuss word. I have also never heard of these guys before, but I think that I'll check out some of their other music.

    Grandmaster Flash is awesome. He was a pioneer of the rap industry, even though "the Message" isn't exactly very resembling of modern rap, it was the base for a genera of music that is very prone to change and variance within its own style. The song is great and The grandmaster was able to separate himself from other generas of the time and create his own new style

Week 8

Well for week 8 I picked the song "Theres a bad moon on the rise" by Credence clearwater revival. So I know this really doesnt have that much to do with the song but when I was like 10 I got a halloween card where part of this song played when you opened it. And the card said something like don't eat to much candy or you'll be in the bathroom on the right. And thats what I thought this song said, instead of " a bad moon on the rise", i thought it said, " there's a bathroom on the right." haha. But this song actually has a pretty cool sound too it. It sounds like a typical 60's song. Has a nice beat, easy to listen to, and just makes you feel good if you know what I mean. For me this song sounds somewhat upbeat and happy, but it doesn't talk about anything happy at all. Unless being prepared to die from bad storm is happy. I know this seems kinda weird but for some reason im surprised  that this song isn't in more movies and tv shows...

Week 4

For week 4 I picked waiting for a train by good old Jimmie Rodgers. I love this song, the message is a little sad but the sound of the song is great. It kind of sounds like Johnny Cash wrote it. I also like that its just super simple, which makes it easy for other people to play. I noticed how it has a good beat for a song from back then. Nothing like you could dance to really good or anything but still a nice beat. Something else I like is about it is that its almost seems like a crooning song. Personally I think its going a little fast to be a croon, but the way he is singing and how its getting picked up by a microphone makes it a have that croon vibe. And on top of the kind of croon sound its has the country vibe too. This might be one of the first country songs. At least for me its one of the earliest ones I have ever heard of. Now it seems to be influenced by tin pan alley somewhat and the crooning style music you hear. And ive never actually heard of Jimmie Rodgers before this c...

Week 6

Alright everybody, for this week I choose Tequila by the Champs. So when I saw this on the list of songs we can pick from I had no idea what it actually was, but this is the song from Pee-wee Herman's big adventure. The part where he is dancing in the bar trying to save his life. Anyway, this is one of those songs that just gets stuck in your head for ever after you listen to it.  I think its kind a funny that it says the same word 3 times for the lyrics. I also noticed how the album cover made it look like this was tough old western/mexican song, but when you hit play its just this goofy dance song haha. I like how they made the sound of the song, sound like a tequila if you know what I mean, whoever wrote it knew what they were doing cause it is spot on. And the fact that the 1 word lyrics sound like the skull talking is pretty cool too. But to wrap things up for the week, Great song, great lyrics, and I was blown away that this was the pee wee herman song
